10 Things Narconon Arrowhead Does To Give Back To The Community

Happy adult woman and middle-aged motherNarconon Arrowhead is a drug and alcohol rehabilitation treatment facility in Oklahoma that uses a holistic and unique approach to help individuals fully address and resolve the mental, emotional and physical causes and effects of drug use.  Based on the drug rehabilitation research and developments made by humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard, the Narconon program empowers individuals to confront and resolve the underlying causes of their drug use and gives them valuable life skills that can help them move on to productive, drug-free lives.

But Narconon does far more than help individuals resolve their substance abuse problems.  Narconon Arrowhead also reaches out to support surrounding communities and promote healthy lives.

How Narconon Arrowhead Gives Back

This is how Narconon Arrowhead gives back to the community:

1. Relay for Life of Pittsburg County

On Friday, September 27th, 2013, a Relay for Life event was held in McAlester, Oklahoma to honor survivors of cancer, remember those who lost their lives to cancer, and to help raise funds for cancer research.  The Narconon Arrowhead team was one of thirteen teams to participate in the event which raised approximately $80,000 on behalf of the American Cancer Society.

2. Encouraging individuals to fight for drug-free communities

Dealing with drug use and abuse in one’s community can be challenging and discouraging, and as a result many individuals may simply choose to ignore such problems.  However, addressing and fighting against drug use in your community can effectively help reduce or eliminate drug activity.  On their blog Narconon Arrowhead lays out five simple ways to take one’s community back from drugs, and encourages individuals to fight for drug-free communities.

3. Providing tips for drug-free holidays

The holidays can be a joyful time for sober individuals, or an emotionally difficult time for drug-abusing individuals and their families.  Narconon Arrowhead spreads the word about the dangers of holiday drug abuse with public service announcements, and provides tips for individuals to enjoy fun and safe holidays.

4. Weekly radio talk show presentations

Narconon Arrowhead has been giving weekly talk show presentations on local radio stations for quite some time.  The presentations are given by either an experienced staff member or by a drug education spokesperson, and can include the warning signs of drug use, the dangers of various drugs and how to stop addiction. 5. Sharing important drug facts and information on Facebook

Facebook is an immensely popular way for individuals to get information about an endless variety of subjects, including the subject of drugs.  When looking at the expansive and often confusing subject of drug use and abuse, it is easy to see how an individual may encounter misleading and false information.  By posting articles regarding various drugs, and the facts about drug effects and dangers, Narconon Arrowhead is helping to bring truth to those whose very lives may depend on it.

6. Discussing the signs of drug use

It is an alarming fact that many individuals who abuse drugs may do so without the knowledge of those around them, and are therefore not receiving much-needed help in fighting their substance abuse problems. Unless, that is, the individuals around them know the signs of drug use.  Narconon Arrowhead’s website outlines the signs and symptoms of drug use so that individuals can knowingly help others address and resolve their substance abuse problems.

7. Hints for parents to help prevent their child’s drug use

Parents innately want their children to lead healthy, happy lives, but are often at a loss when it comes to addressing their child’s drug prevention education.  Narconon Arrowhead’s blog gives parents helpful tips for how to prevent drug use by their child.

8. Providing a kid’s coloring book for National Recovery Month

In honor of National Recovery Month 2013, Narconon Arrowhead created a new drug education coloring book for kids entitled “Be A Winner, Kids! Say No to Drugs!”  The message in the twelve page book is for kids to stay active and healthy, to enjoy fun activities with their family and friends, to read and learn in school and to live a drug-free life.

9. Participation in community disaster relief efforts

In May 2013 several large tornadoes ripped through Oklahoma, destroying homes and lives.  Many people and groups joined in the disaster relief efforts that followed, including Narconon Arrowhead staff member and Drug Education Specialist, Niko Bain.

10. Tips for how to relieve stress without drugs and alcohol

Most individuals like natural, effective solutions, but if they are unaware of such options they may turn to the less safe “cover” of drugs and alcohol. Narconon Arrowhead’s blog provides readers with tips for how they can relieve the stress of everyday life through natural means, instead of turning to drugs and alcohol.

Narconon Arrowhead shows a firm commitment in helping to create a healthier Oklahoma by their participation in community service activities and in the spreading of helpful drug and health information.
